Are you worried about how to keep up with the Joneses as a single mum? I used to be, but then I realized they probably had more worries than I did. Dealing with finances is one of the biggest stresses for a single mum. You must be wondering how to save money every month so that you can make ends meet.
1. Plan to save money every month
Write your shopping list and stick to whats on the list, its normal to get a bit carried away once you enter Carrefour and see all the sales slapping you with a red sign. Impulse buying was a disease I steadily cured myself of.
2. Save on food by cooking and eating at home
I love home cooking, so this really hasn’t been an issue, now that I’m accustomed to the mode of life, I’m almost always calculating such expenses when I do dine out. Don’t get me wrong, dining out is great, but do it in moderation. Besides, home meals are more nutritious and the leftovers taste even better.
3. Find free fun
Check out what free events are lined up for the month, you can never get bored in Nairobi. there’s always something to see and do, even if there’s a fee, it’s manageable.
4. Fix things yourself
Like seriously! I do practically everything myself, from changing bulbs, hammering stuff around, for pitsake, I even have a mini screwdriver set in my handbag just in case. If you lack this skill set, you can always ask a friend or family member for help.
5. Open a savings account
The beauty of this is a simple fact that you don’t get a debit card, and banks make it super inconvenient to withdraw from your child’s account.
Now you know how to save money every month. It’s pretty easy, right? A few simple changes can make a huge difference in how much you have left in your wallet or bank account at the end of the month.
