4 Things To Prepare When You Meet Your Boyfriend’s Family

Spread the love
It is finally happening…

You are officially meeting your boyfriend’s family. Now before you pass out and start sweating buckets, we need to reel that in and get it together because this is NOT a drill. Here is a couple of do’s and donts about that all important when you meet your boyfriend’s parents for the very first time (Yikes, we are rooting for you sis!)

1.Dress appropriately

This is not blankets and wines. You are not here to slay anybody. No please. Keep the short shorts and teh crop tops at home sis. Ask your boyfriend how conservative his parents are. You don’t want to offend anyone by showing too much skin or wearing attire with images or language that might be seen as rude.

2.Do some research before hand

He’s probably told them a little about you, so it’s good to be familiar with some general facts about them. Don’t be afraid to ask your boyfriend for some information on his parents; he obviously wants you to make a good impression, too. Ask him about their quirks or pet peeves so you can avoid doing anything to annoy them. Also this helps with those awkward silences because now you can ask “So Brian, tells me you golf, how is that going?” and shows you are interested not only in their son but in them as well.

3. Do bring a gift

Please don’t go swinging your hands into their house. Older people take this as a sign that you were not raised right. Ask your boyfriend what kinds of things his mom likes using in the kitchen or what small inexpensive gift his dad would like.

4.Do not do PDA

Weh! Don’t go into a ultra conservative home and start canoodling like you are back in your SQ! A little  hand-holding might be cute, but don’t get carried away. You don’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. That means no making out or touching in inappropriate places!

All in all, make sure that you stay true to yourself and be polite. Meeting the parents for the first time is always intense but it’s super rewarding for your relationship as a couple. Tell us what other tips we might have missed out on in the comments below!
