Popular Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones has cemented his status as one of the continent’s best rappers by winning the Best African Rap Act award. He impressively beat off competition from great African rappers like Sarkodie, Casper Nyovest, Olamide and Nasty C.
The fifth edition of the prestigious award, which honors the best acts from Africa, was held in Dallas, Texas in the USA. Several other Kenyan artistes had been nominated in various categories including Sauti Sol, Victoria Kimani, Akothee and Gloria Muliro.
Among the Kenyan nominees, Sauti Sol were listed in three categories; ‘Best Male East Africa’, ‘Best African Group’, and ‘Best Live Act’ while rapper Khaligraph Jones had two nominations for ‘Best Male East Africa’ and Best Rap Act.
Other local celebrities who were nominated include, Nyashinski, Victoria Kimani, Akothe, Willy Paul and Papa Dennis.
Surprisingly, Papa Dennis won the Best African Gospel Act award, seeing off competition from Willy Paul and Gloria Muliro both from Kenya, Frank Edwards, Winnie Mashaba and others.
Arrow Buoy did not win in his category of Best Newcomer but he gave an electrifying performance at the awards shows. His category went to Uganda’s Ykee Benda
