It’s #InternationalDayOfThe Girl, Here’s What Your Fave Celebs Are Saying

Another year, another day to mark the struggles and slow progress of the rights of the girl child.

The fact that this day exists and has been celebrated for years still goes to show that the fight will continue for generations to come. Every day bears yet another vilifying story of the total disregard of the girl child as a human being.

However, all hope is not lost. Women continue to speak up for their rights and it’s the most inspiring thing to see. In as much as a few men are rallying behind us, we all know that change begins with us.

As we celebrate this day, our favourite celebs are using their platforms to raise awareness at the same time condemning injustices done to girls and women as a whole. Here are a few of your favourites:

It’s #DayOfTheGirl2018! This year’s theme is “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”, join @unicef_kenya and UN Women as we stand with girls everywhere as they inspire, innovate and take charge of their own future #InuaDada
The 1.1 billion girls in today’s world are challenging the status quo. They’re redefining girlhood and while that’s amazing to see, they still face so many adversities, such as child marriage. I’m going to #VowForGirls with millions across the world, to fight for an end to this practice. (You can do the same by posting a pic of your ring finger and using the hashtag).

One day to spotlight issues surrounding girls, but I think this year’s theme is one we need to keep raising awareness on! “A skilled girl force” cannot be achieved without ensuring girls’ access to education! An issue that really affects our continent as many governments still have policies or lack of, that force girls out of school! In friggin 2018 how are some African countries denying pregnant girls the right to attend school?! So strange that we’d see that as a solution instead of investigating the many factors that result in teen pregnancies.

Inetrnational day of the girlMy journey in the media industry has not been easy, every opportunity from being an intern on radio to TV and emceeing has been earned through hard work. Some people told me I couldn’t do it, but that didn’t stop me. I’ve missed soooo many opportunities because I’m female 😂😂 That didn’t discourage me, it motivated me. Thank you to all the incredible women who’ve turned back to open doors for us. People like my amazing boss @Radiobosslady Today being International day of the girl, some of the things I wish for is to see all young girls growing up believing that they can be anything they want to be, irrespective of their gender. That they will get a seat at the table because they are talented and skilled in what they do. That they are capable and are forces to be reckoned with.
Remember, if you empower a woman, you empower a whole community.
To all the women and girls who follow me and show me love & support, whether you know me or not, thank you and cheers to us!

Happy International day of the girl, may you all surpass every hurdle imposed on you because of your gender!
