Everything you read this past weekend must have touched on Tyler Perrys huge achievement. Last Saturday was the premiere of the multifaceted 250$ million dollar film studio in Atlanta. The star-studded premiere hosted guests such as Tyler’s long-time friend Oprah Winfrey, Halle Berry, Taraji Henson, Jill Scott and Whoopi Goldberg.
Tyler Perry’s studio capacity surpasses Disney and Warner brothers combined. The first of its kind and one of the largest studios in the US. The studio was constructed on 330- acre land that was acquired in 2015. It is well equipped with 12 fully furnished sound stages for music production named after noteworthy African-American influencers who have impacted the movie industry and curved the way for future generations in the now diverse production industry. The music production studios was named after Will Smith, Oprah Winfrey, Cicely Tyson, Sidney Poitier. “This is more about Tyler the entrepreneur. The visionary. A guy who understands that ownership means you can do what you want” said Samuel L Jackson.
Other than surprising us with the launch of his new studio, Tyler Perry showed us what matters to him. Situated in downtown Atlanta, Tyler hopes the studio can represent to the small children living in challenging environments that their dreams are valid. Not only that but Tyler plans to build a shelter for displaced LGBTQ youth, homeless women and trafficked victims in his 330-acre film studio. This achievement makes him the first African-American man to own a major film studio.
