Bold but cautious.
Natural hair can be a great canvas for color, but if you’re considering coloring your hair for the first time, there are some precautions to take. You have to consider the color you’re going for, how it will affect your curls, and the maintenance associated with your choice. Curly hair is beautiful but it can also be fragile and prone to damage. That’s why we have a few tips on coloring your natural hair to help protect your strands during this process!
Check Out these 3 Tips Before Coloring Your Hair:
1. Slow & Steady.
Go slow and steady with the dyeing process so as not to affect your curl pattern. If your color is done the right way, your curl pattern will remain intact. Lightening your hair in one session can cause hair damage that could affect your curls therefore slowing down the process allows your natural hair to stay healthy and damage free.
2. Deep Cleansing.
The most important thing before getting natural hair colored is to make sure it is strong and clean. The night before you head to the salon, use a clarifying shampoo to remove any excess buildup left behind by products. The cleaner your scalp and strands, the better the color will penetrate strands.
3. Don’t Straighten.
Temporary straighteners are a no-no before getting your hair colored because they weaken hair making it more prone to damage. These products actually weaken the protein bonds which is how they straighten curly hair. Limit your usage or blow-dryers, curling irons and flat irons. Too much heat will damage your curls and colored hair will further damage it.
