You may be wondering why your skin still has issues even after passing through some rough adolescence years.

Dealing with issues related to our skin can sometimes be stressful and so expensive. Skin products, specifically those used to treat acne are not the cheapest and there are some of us that have tried everything and nothing seems to work. First and foremost it’s important to find out the root cause of your skin issues so you know how to best handle it before opting for expensive skin care brands. Here are some reasons your skin may be breaking out.

1. Sweat.

Sweat causes pityrosporum folliculitis acne which is caused by a normal skin yeast called Malassezia. This can clog your pores so make sure to always take a shower immediately after a workout to avoid it.

2. You eat too much dairy.

If you think this is the case, eliminate dairy products from your diet and see if you will notice a change in your skin. Dermatologist Cynthia Bailey, M.D. concludes that we are what we eat. According to Scientific American there is a link between dairy intake and breakouts. Fats found in dairy products can be rich in bacteria and yeast and they deposit themselves in the sebaceous cells which can lead to breakouts.

3. Genetic.

Sometimes acne-related problems run in the family. A 2002 British study suggests that 81 percent of acne can be attributed to genetic factors rather than environmental ones. Unfortunately you just have to deal with this.

4. Dirty makeup tools.

If you’re guilty of cleaning your makeup brushes once in a blue moon, this may be why your skin is breaking out. Makeup brushes gather up a lot of bacteria over time and this will keep going onto your face.

5. You’re on your menses.

A lot of us breakout when we are on our period. Hormones called androgens overstimulate the skin’s oil glands, producing more sebum and this can lead to breakouts. That explains those huge annoying zits!

6. Bad sleeping patterns

Not getting enough beauty rest causes stress, leading to the production of cortisol, the ‘stress hormone’. This leads to overproduction of sebum causing your skin to break out.
