Tribal Chic is an annual fashion show organised by the Tribe Hotel, Nairobi that brings together designers from Kenya and across the world.
This year, the event was held on Saturday the 3rd at the sophisticated Tribe Hotel that was transformed into one of the most spectacular fashion show venues Nairobi has yet to see.
The event started off with a glass of champagne to set the mood right for guests to mingle. There was also a wide selection of biting that were delicious and never seemed to end.
Before the show started, we visited the designer pop-up stores where guests had one on one interactions with the designers from Kenya, Egypt and as far as India. The jewellery stands particularly stood out because of the work and hours that is put on the creation of the one-off pieces.
Adel Dejak, started us off with her new bold collection that the models wore with sexy leather dresses. Her collection was daring and fun.
Qaal Designs represented the #teammodest very well. The conservative collection was perfect for women who like delicate fabrics and designs that are stylish but conservative at the same time.
The brand started off with a bang! A male model came out wearing a kilt (Scottish skirts that men wear) and a yellow shirt that looked outstanding on his ultra-dark skin tone. The whole collection was creative and the use of colour made the crowd go wild.
A Zumi’s favorite, her style was simple – elegant and timeless.
Deepa Dosaja, Sarayaa from Senegal, Anyango Mpinga and Sally Karago all showcased with amazing pieces that were adorned by the beautiful models on the Tribal Chic runway.
Niku was at it yet again with his bold and out of the box jewelry made from brass and aluminium. The hand-made pieces were a true representation of elegance and glamour.
Ending the show was the talented newcomers, M+K. The design house used leather, bead work and earthy tones to bring out modern femininity. The designs were awesome and the designers, adorable. We cannot wait to see what new projects.
There was a performance by the Soma Soma Initiative Founders, Sauti Sol that was interrupted by some sound issues but Sauti Sol still gave an outstanding acapella performance. Every attendee went home with a goodie bag filled with designer head bands, key holders, jewelry and even macaroons from Suite 101 (they were so delicious).
That was an amazing fashion show. We cannot wait for next year’s edition of the Tribal Chic.
